The Love That Cannot Be

Flaming souls entwined in sorrow

With no future, no hope for a tomorrow

Hold on still, the morning will dawn

It’s what you say, that all is not gone

But can you drown their misery

Can you make them one

What can you really do

When they come undone

Your pearls of wisdom

Fall short of the radiance

That their love exuded

What you offer is only sympathy

Wrapped in the colour red

Theirs is the love that cannot be

Theirs is the story that will be hushed

Theirs would be a fable

Albeit, battered and crushed.
